Granite is a common and widely occurring type of intrusive, felsic, igneous rock. It is an igneous rock of volcanic origin and is composed of 30% quartz and 60% feldspar, which gives it a high range of hardness. It is very resistant to high wear, with superior abrasion resistance and compressive strength. Granites usually have a medium to coarse grained texture. Granites can be pink to dark gray or even black, depending on their chemistry and mineralogy. Granite is nearly always massive, diamond-hard and tough, non-porous surface, vivid natural color palette, and therefore it has gained widespread use as a construction stone.
