Onyx is one of the most elegant stones found in nature. Onyx is a member of the chalcedony family which also includes carnelian, agate, bloodstone, etc. Occurring naturally in a variety of colors, black onyx is polished to enhance appearance, a member of the quartz family. Onyx is a semi-precious, translucent stone. Like the other stones in the chalcedony family, onyx has a smooth, waxy luster. A translucent stone with a glossy, polished surface, onyx is composed of crystalline silica and closely related to agate, a semi-precious stone.
